Environment
Lower Manhattan sits on the front lines of the climate crisis. From Superstorm Sandy to rising sea levels, this district has already seen what happens when infrastructure fails and communities are left exposed.
We need leadership that treats climate resilience, environmental justice, and quality of life as urgent priorities — not long-term ideas.
What I’ve Done
I’ve been actively engaged in environmental and resiliency efforts across this district for years.
Active since Superstorm Sandy in the waterfront resiliency project
Through Sophie Gerson Healthy Youth, in partnership with the Sierra Club, worked on environmental initiatives
Advocated for changes in the implementation of congestion pricing
Supported waterfront reinvigoration efforts
Helped secure space on Governor’s Island for Harbor School
These efforts have focused on protecting our shoreline, expanding environmental education, and improving quality of life for residents.
What I Will Do
We must invest in long-term solutions that protect our neighborhoods, improve public health, and make our city more livable.
Continue supporting comprehensive resiliency efforts across Lower Manhattan
Strengthen NYCHA flood protection plans to protect vulnerable residents
Avoid new developments in flood zones
Fund and expand composting programs
Advance building electrification
Designate community gardens as parks and turn gray space into green space
Expand access to play space for families and children
On congestion pricing:
Fix the system so that residents earning less than $60,000 do not have to pay upfront
